SulAmérica and Waze:
Pioneering Road Safety in Brazil
SulAmérica and Waze: Pioneering Road Safety in Brazil.
In an unprecedented partnership between SulAmérica, Brazil's largest auto insurance company, and Waze, the widely used navigation app, I led a project that significantly enhanced road safety in Brazil's major cities.
Data-Driven Strategy: By cross-matching extensive data from millions of SulAmérica clients with Waze's user-generated data, we identified thousands of high-risk locations across the country. This innovative approach allowed us to alert Waze users before they approached potentially dangerous areas.
Project Goals: Our primary objective was to make the fastest routes also the safest. In Brazilian cities, where traffic issues are compounded by high rates of dangerous occurrences, this project was not just about efficiency but safety and protection.
Innovative Solution: For the first time, we combined SulAmérica's detailed incident data with Waze's navigational capabilities. This collaboration resulted in a new service that provided real-time alerts to drivers near unsafe locations, including intersections with high accident rates, areas prone to vehicle theft, and spots frequented by bicycles and motorcycles.
Impact and Scale: This initiative marked the first time a brand offered such a comprehensive safety service at this scale in Brazil. By delivering relevant information in the right context, we significantly enhanced the safety of millions of drivers without altering the app’s core functionalities.
This project exemplifies how combining different sets of data can create impactful solutions that go beyond traditional service boundaries, ultimately contributing to a safer driving environment.
